How to work on a Task

In CPPJ, a Task represents a vulnerable course target. Start it from the panel and work on it from SpartanOps. Review the general Task concept first.

You need current CPPJ access and a prepared SpartanOps. Tasks are only reachable from authorized lab networks.

Start and work

1. Open CPPJ and go to Tasks.
2. Locate an available Task. Its row shows the difficulty, assigned address, flags and state.
3. Select Start and wait until the state shows that it is running.
4. Copy the address displayed in the row.
5. Open the SpartanOps console and enumerate the target.
6. Save notes and evidence in your workspace.
7. When you find a flag, return to the Task and submit it.

Use Refresh status to check for changes. Available controls and any temporary wait appear in the panel. Do not repeat Start while the Task is changing state.

When the state changes to Running, the target becomes reachable from SpartanOps and Start is disabled.

Stopping a Task

Some lab platforms provide manual controls for starting and stopping each resource. In CPPJ, the student interface allows Start, but does not display a Stop or Reset button for an individual Task.

The platform manages idle-target shutdown and restoration cycles. Use Refresh status to confirm the change. Do not stop SpartanOps expecting it to stop the Task as well: they are separate resources.
